There are a lot of reasons why being an expert is a great way to market your business. But guess what, you don’t actually have to be an “expert” to be an expert. Most people would not consider themselves an “expert” at anything. To put it simply, people become experts because they learn something and then share what they learn with others. The thing is being an expert is all relative. If you can provide information to someone that teaches them something, you have just shown your expertise in that area. It might not be much, but it’s a start. And in order to grow your expertise, you just have to keep learning and keep sharing your learnings. Experts are thought leaders, meaning people look to experts for knowledge in a particular area.
A great way to teach people and show your expertise is through your web site or through social media. This is a big reason why we do blog posts on Fit For His Glory. Experts write. We should be smarter for writing it, and the reader should be smarter for reading it. Our goal with each post is to provide valuable content that teaches our readers something. It’s a great way to educate and build trust with your followers since you are providing them valuable information for free.
Ultimately, the more trust you build with your followers, the easier it will be for them to become customers if you have a solution at the ready. One day when that reader experiences a problem in an area that we have written about, our expertise might help them see us as able to provide a solution to that problem. Since Caroline writes about health, nutrition, and fitness, the goal is for her challenge groups, Beachbody programs, and Shakeology to be the solution when people decide they want to take that step to make a change their health and fitness.
So to wrap this up: Learn, Teach, and Share. The more consistently you do this, the more people will look to you when they want to learn about that particular subject, and the better chance you will have to turn them into a customer.
